MSP Trainer

MSP Trainer since 2005

In 2005 I decided to gain knowledge to gain more theoretical knowledge of (strategic) programme management. Sponsored by a small, but very prominent British consultancy/training organisation, I passed the MSP Advanced Practitioner exam. A few months later, I was successfully trained to become a MSP (Managing Successful Programmes) trainer, again sponsored by the same consultancy.

From 2005 I was an APMG Approved MSP Trainer.

Approach

A MSP trainer should, in my opinion, focus almost completely on:

  • Leadership,
  • Vision,
  • Benefits management,
  • and Stakeholder Engagement.

For me, this is the core of MSP. Where these subjects are partly split up in separate themes, they cannot be seen or discussed as distinct subjects. These four subjects are different sides of the same topic: to involve stakeholders with change and to keep them involved as much possible.

Style

The consequence is that a MSP trainer should frequently act as a coach. It is very important to use many real-life examples. Discussions with delegates about their experiences and views are essential.
