PRINCE2 vs. the Waterfall approach

There is a widespread perception that PRINCE2 is largely based on the traditional Waterfall approach. Many years ago the Waterfall approach was the standard in software development.

Recently an extension to PRINCE2, PRINCE2 Agile, was published. Many comments were made that PRINCE2 was finally modernized and was changed from a Waterfall approach to modern approaches popular in the IT industry.

Were those comments justified? Or were those comments made by people with poor understanding and wrong perception of what PRINCE2 really suggests? Notoriously the IT industry have very strange ideas about what PRINCE2 stands for.

This article explains the PRINCE2 views on how to control and do the work in a project. It will show that PRINCE2 is really all about agility. But maybe not in the IT sense of the word.
